LEST WE FORGET GUANTANAMO
It is all too easy to slip into the concept that, if things are so dangerous to our life and security, we must throw away all basic principles of justice. That is to say, if we even think a person may be a terrorist or a threat to our safety, we have instead of the right to not be subject to cruel and unusual punishment ourselves as promised in the eight amendment, we can ignore this constitutional protection when it comes to a proposed enemy. Further, we can throw the right to an attorney, to a fair trial, to habeas corpus. When we do this- do we do a grave disservice to ourselves, our conscious and to the vision of our Founding Fathers.
Ken Eade, the author of “A Patriot’s Act” has written about the stain on our country and culture by continuing to keep open Guantanamo. One of our illustrious Presidential candidates has even called to renew waterboarding and even worse as well as sending Americans to Guantanamo. Here’s what Ken Eade wrote about closing the troubled military installation.
